Ridgegourd Vada


 Ridgegourd vada is a simple and very tasty snack that u can make with ridgegourd mixed with rice flour.This is liked especially by kids who do not like this vegetable.


  1. Ridgegourd  pieces – 1cup
  2. Ginger garlic paste – 1/2tsp(optional)
  3. Red chillipowder – 1tsp
  4. Rice flour – 4 tsp
  5. Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
  6. Salt to taste
  7. Oil for deep frying


  • Cut Ridgegourd into very tiny pieces,add  little salt and leave it for half an hr.
  • Squeeze the water completely from the ridgegourd pieces and to this add chillipowder, ginger garlic paste,cumin seeds, rice flour and salt( if required)without adding any water.
  • Make them like vadas on a plastic sheet and deep fry in oil.


  • Goes well with any chutney or tomato  ketchup.

  3. that is a very new kind of vada. you didnt add besan too. won’t rice flour absorb more oil?

  6. We make ridge gourd bajjis with chickpea flour, but never made with rice flour. I will try them and let you know how did they turn out.

    Actually the rice flour did not absorb much oil.They came out dry when compared to bajjis we make with besan.Give it a try!
