Semya pulihora



I tried making this breakfast variety with semya,just like noodles boiling them first in water and adding the seasoning to it. I felt this tasted great than the regular semya upma.Try this way and enjoy! 


  1. Semya/Vermicelli – 2cups
  2. Green chillies – 3
  3. Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
  4. Cashews/Groundnuts – 1/2tsp
  5. Lemon juice – 2tsp
  6. Salt to taste
  7. Oil – 2tsp
  8. Water – 2cups

 For seasoning  :

  1. Chana dal – 1tsp
  2. Urad dal – 1tsp
  3. Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
  4. Curry leaves – few


  • First boil the semya in 2cups of water until slightly cooked.
  • Heat oil in a pan add the seasoning ingredients,groundnuts/cashews,green chillies and turmeric powder.
  • To this add the cooked semya,salt and mix well and cook for 5min.
  • Add lemon juice before serving.

  4. I had this upma many times but never tried at home. I am scared that I may not be able to make it right way. Will sure try your version.


  5. My sis makes Daddojanam with semiya. It taste really good. Everything is same except for rice she uses vermicelli. Try next time. Semiya pulihora looks delicous.
