Cabbage Pickle

Cabbage pickle is a temporary pickle which has a tangy and crunchy taste.This stays for a week(if refrigerated)and very easy to make.Try this!

Ingredients:

  1. Grated cabbage – 2cups
  2. Red chillipowder – 3tsp
  3. Salt – 3tsp
  4. Mustard powder – 3tsp
  5. Garlic pods – 6
  6. Oil – 4tsp

Method:

  • Sprinkle salt to grated cabbage and leave it aside for 30min or so.
  • Squeeze out the water from cabbage completely.
  • Now add red chillipowder,mustard powder and finely chopped garlic and oil to it accordingly.
  • This pickle tastes crunchy and great after 6hrs with rice or chapathis.

  1. Great stuff! Never heard of Cabbage pickle before.Cabbage has lot of water content. I guess you have to use it up ASAP and make small amount at a time as well.Looks delicious though.I will try.Thanks:)

    Thanks a bunch.Yes lots of water comes out when u squeeze after sprinkling salt.
    Making small amount is good.

    Hey Madhoori!
    Thanks for the recipe. I just went Google-ing for cabbage pickles – in order to use up some cabbage that’s not going to last much longer. This popped up high on the list. I doubled the recipe due to the amount of cabbage I had leftover. After letting it sit in the fridge for a few hours it tasted good, but I decided to add some sea salt. I’m thinking of mixing in some chopped onion next time any thoughts on that? I’m sure that’ll be tasty but how far can I stray before it becomes something else?

    I suspect my experimentation will become less and less Indian e.g. as I’m typing this I realized I’ll be mixing in some greek yogurt to a small portion – just for giggles, but this recipe was a great leaping off point!
