Dal Fry is spicy lentil soup cooked with yellow lentils and indian spices.
This goes well with any indian bread and rice.
- Toor dal – 1cup
- Turmeric powder – 1tsp
- Tamarind water – 1tsp
- Red chilly powder – 1tsp
- Green chillies – 2
- Cumin powder – 1/2tsp
- Coriander powder – 1/2tsp
- Mustard seeds – 1tsp
- Urad dal – 1tsp
- Dry red chilles – 2
- Curry leaves – 6- 7
- Coriander leaves(chopped)-2tsp
- Tomato[chopped] – 1(large)
- Onion[ chopped] – 1(large)
- Garlic cloves – 3to 4
- Oil -1tsp
Salt to taste
Pressure cook the dal with salt, turmeric and chilly powder .
In a pan take mustard,urad dal red chilly, green chilli pieces, curry leaves and oil and wait till it splutters.
Then add chopped onions and saute them till they turn transparent.
Now add tomatoes and cook till it becomes very soft.
Now add all the cooked dal and remaining ingredients and bring to a boil.
Let it simmer and cook for an additional 10 mins.
Garnish with coriander leaves in the end.
Serve hot with plain rice or roti.
