 Cabbage is a vegetable most of the people do not like, but cooked with the correct blend of indian spices tastes wonderful. Traditional south indian cooks are experts in making any vegetable taste good. Here is a  simple recipe  with cabbage and moong dal.

Ingredients:

  1. Cabbage - 1 (medium)
  2. Moong dal/pesarapappu - 1cup
  3. Ginger -1″ piece
  4. Green chillies - 4
  5. Mustard seeds - 1tsp
  6. Curry leaves - few
  7. Oil - 2tsp
  8. Salt to taste

Method:

  • Soak moong dal in water for 15min.
  • Chop the cabbage  into fine pieces.  
  • Heat 2tsp oil in a pan add mustard seeds,ginger pieces,green chillies and curry leaves.
  • After the mustard seeds starts spluttering add the cabbage and salt by adding 1/2cup of water and cook till the cabbage is soft.
  • Now add the soaked moong dal and mix well with cabbage & cook till all the water evaporates.
  •  This curry tastes good with rice or chapathis.

Note:

  • U can do all this process in pressure pan too for  about 2 whistles or so.
  • Adding ginger is a must as the raw smell of cabbage is gone with the use of ginger.

Tindoora/dondakaya fry(2)

  Gherkins fry

This is the simplest of simplest recipes for any vegetable i suppose with not much spices to add quick ,simple and flavourful.

 

Ingredients:

  1. Tindoora/Dondakayalu- 6 cups (sliced)

  2. Onion - 2(medium size)

  3. Red chilli powder - per taste

  4. Salt - per taste

  5. Oil - 3 tsp

Method:

  • First slice the tindoora vertically into 2 halves.Then slice each half into vertical slices or even u can cut them as  round circles.

  • Heat oil nicely in a deep kadai.

  • Add the tindoora pieces and mix.

  • Keep a med-high flame and once in few min keep mixing the tindoora pieces 

  • Once the tindoora pieces  are  little soft add onions and fry for another 10 minutes.

  • To this  add salt and chilli powder.

  • This fry is easy and goes well with rice or any indian breads.

 

Note:

  • U can even fry without onions too.

  • I do the same way with potato,parval,raw banana,okra and the list goes on…..
